The first Bug and more!

First Bug !

This was the first Beetle that I ever owned. My father Jon, bought it for $700. It was baby blue with missing running boards. Other than that it was in pretty good shape. He had the fenders rolled, put american mags on, had the interior re-done and then had the car painted candy apple red. I always told him that I thought it was the coolest car I had ever seen. One day while down in Columbus at school, my car finally gave up on me. My dad had me come on home for the weekend, and while I was there he gave me the keysto the bug!! I was floored, it was probably one of the coolest things he had ever done for me. He wasn't much on making a big deal out of things so he just told me to try to take care of this one. Unfortunately, the bug wasn't destined to remain with me very long - between several accidents and the need to pay bills I had to let it go. I wish I was able to get it back now. The interest and joy that my mother had given me when I was younger was rekindled in later years by my father , and I have enjoyed them ever since. He was a great guy and was always interested in what I was doing with VW's. He was killed in an auto accident on Tuesday , July 17th, 2001. I will miss his comments on all the vehicles I have ever had and on all the vehicles I will ever own, but I will miss talking VW's with him most of all. It was one piece of common ground that we shared. Peace, Dad. Enjoy the ride.
